HKUST Water Sports Festival 2014 cum

Launching Ceremony of the HKUST Water Sports Center

(香港科技大學水上活動日2014 暨香港科技大學水上活動中心成立典禮)

Background

The coastal location of HKUST campus is ideal for a range of sea water sports including dragon boat, coastal rowing, windsurfing, canoeing, water polo and so on.  The University’s vision for developing water sports is truly educational.  We aspire to create an environment where our students can pursue common interest of sportsmanship, develop their fine competitive spirit, form a sense of esprit de corps, and foster the virtues of discipline, resilience and excellence.  Our mission to give all students a holistic campus life experience that will prepare them to become the future leaders and lifelong learners.  We can also enable our faculty, staff and alumni to come together and build up their affinity with the University under the 1-HKUST concept.

Towards these goals, the President has charged a Preparatory Taskforce, composed of faculty, staff, student and alumni representatives, to give advice on establishing the Water Sports Center at HKUST by phases.  As a result, the Taskforce organized the Dragon Boat Fun Race in last October which was very well received all over the university community.

Riding on the enthusiastic support, the President in consultation with the Taskforce has decided to organize an annual sea water sports event on campus from now on.  The HKUST Water Sports Festival 2014 is now scheduled to fall on 11 October 2014.  The Festival caters for a greater variety of sea water sports this time including canoeing, dragon boat, coastal rowing and beach water polo.  It is important in the sense that 1) this is the one and only one annual university-wide sea water sports event; and 2) we will take the opportunity to announce the launching of the HKUST Water Sports Center which signifies our readiness to provide services and training to students and other members of the university community on a more regular basis.

Please come to join us and participate!
